Building an Entertainment Center

I assembled both bookcases today.

Started with rounding over the edges on the shelves that I could before I assembled them.

Then its time to add the pocket holes where they're needed. I use an older Kreg K2 jig, but it still works great so I haven't been able to justify getting the new one.

Pocket holes are all done. Time to start the assembly.

First thing is glue in the dados. Lay a nice bead of it down and then brush it out.

Then the shelves go in and get toenailed into place. I know nails in fine furniture? The dado's offer a lot of strength from downward pressure, but aren't quite as strong when the force is trying to pull the shelf out of the dado. So a few brads per shelf will keep everything together until the back and face frame is attached.

All the shelves are in on one side. Time to add the other side.

Other side is glued and nailed on. Time to add the back.

Back is 1/2" plywood. Cut and ready for the test fit.

Test fit was fine, so it gets glue and stapled on.

One bookcase down. A little while later the next one is finished. Matching set of bookcases.

The small retangular holes, by the shelves, will be covered by the faceframe, you won't be able to tell they are there..

Next it'll be adding the face frame. Then I'll start on the TV cabinet.
